Brussels has lost the right to stage matches at Euro 2020 following delays in the development of a new stadium, UEFA said on Thursday.

Despite being in the running as alternative options, Cardiff's Principality Stadium and Stockholm's Friends Arena missed out on the chance to replace Brussels.

Glasgow's Hampden Park had been hoping to stage the tournament's opening game but that honour has gone to Rome's Stadio Olimpico.

The European football governing body's executive committee decided "unanimously" to strip Brussels of its four matches due to the inability of Belgian organisers to guarantee the new stadium to the north of the capital where they would have been held could be built in time. Wembley Stadium was already set to host the semifinals and finals of the tournament.

Each of the 12 host cities have been paired together in six groups of two and it also means a trip to Spain could be on the cards for travelling Irish fans.

Staged across 12 countries, Euro 2020's unusual format was former UEFA president Michel Platini's brainchild - a one-off gesture to celebrate the tournament's 60th birthday.

John Mayer was rushed to a New Orleans hospital early Tuesday morning (December 5) for emergency surgery. Dead & Company is now next scheduled to perform on Thursday at the Amway Center in Orlando , FL.

UEFA also divided host cities into pairs, with each pair sharing matches in a given group.

"This has been a collective and collaborative process and we could not have done it without the support of the Government and the Mayor of London".

The other host cities for Euro 2020 are: Baku, Copenhagen, Munich, Budapest, Rome, Amsterdam, Bucharest and Bilbao.

The boost to England's credentials as a host of major tournament football comes after it emerged this week that chairman Greg Clarke has begun laying the groundwork for a potential bid for the 2030 World Cup.

Should they qualify, the Republic of Ireland will be in Group E of the tournament.

Ceferin said the decision followed the Eurostadium project's failure to meet the conditions imposed by the UEFA executive committee in September 2017.
