Dead & Company, made up of Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Bob Weir, Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti, announced their first tour less than two months after the Grateful Dead played their final show.

According to a rep, 40-year-old John Mayer needed surgery in order to remove his appendix.

John Mayer was rushed to a New Orleans hospital early Tuesday morning (December 5) for emergency surgery.

The band announced that Mayer's hospitalization prompted them to postpone a planned concert Tuesday in New Orleans. "All tickets for the December 5 show will be honored for the rescheduled date".

Dead & Company has been around since 2015. Refunds will also be available at the point of purchase.

The group is in the second leg of its 2018 tour, and has shows slated for Thursday and Friday in Florida, as well as a string of dates in Mexico in February.

The band didn't provide any further details on Mayer's condition or how the procedure went.
