  • Police Complaint Filed Alleging Conductor James Levine Molested a Teen Boy

The Metropolitan Opera in NY is to investigate allegations that James Levine, regarded by many as America's greatest conductor, molested a teenager for years. Initially, it was just uncomfortable hand-holding in Levine's auto, he said.

Speaking of the incident, Gelb said: "At the time, Mr. Levine said that the charges were completely false, and we relied upon the further investigation of the police". But eventually, he said Levine would masturbate in front of him and, as he got older, he said the conductor inappropriately touched and fondled him. "Emotionally I have been hurt by this and confused and paralyzed". "Now I can", the man has said.

The report, citing police records, stated that Levine molested a teenager from the time he was 15 years old until the teen was pushed to the brink of suicide.

Sandow, in an email to HuffPost on Sunday, confirmed his communication with a Lake Forest police detective in December of 2016 about the allegations of abuse.

Levine's manager did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

On Saturday Russia's Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated his country's condemnation of the missile test . No, you know, I've seen no evidence of the investigation in any way impeding the important work that we're doing.

The accusations follow a series of sexual abuse and harassment claims made against high-profile figures in the entertainment industry. The wave began after several women aired such allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein in an early October story in the Times.

During a long and distinguished career, Levine was nominated for 37 Grammy awards.

Levine, who first became musical director of The Metropolitan Opera in 1976, continued to work there as recently as Saturday night, when he completed his run conducting Giuseppe Verdi's "Requiem".

James Levine pauses as he looks over the stage and conductor's podium in Boston's Symphony Hall after being announced as the next conductor and music director of The Boston Symphony Orchestra October 29, 2001 at a news conference in Boston. The allegations come with the United States reeling from a firestorm of sexual misconduct claims that have ended a litany of powerful careers and rocked USA industries from Hollywood to news to politics. The lauded maestro has been with the Met for 40 years and led "more than 2,500 performances of 85 different operas since his company debut in 1971 leading Puccini's Tosca".
