LG launched the Oreo beta program a few weeks ago, and now the company has chose to roll out the preview version for its homeland, South Korea. Manually searching for the update is also an option that can be performed by tapping the corresponding command in the "About Device" section of the HTC U11's Settings app. Those who own HTCU11 unlocked units can expect the update to become available for download starting today.
He didn't give any details on timing for the non-U11 devices, only going as far as saying that "It's coming soon". Following this, other countries should also get the update soon.
With this update, the U11 users will get all the Android 8.0 Oreo features like the Smart text selection, Auto-fill, Picture-in-Picture mode, new Quick settings design and more.
The announcement comes via HTC's Mo Versi, VP, Product Management, on his Twitter account. However, in later tweets, Versi has confirmed that the company is already working on rolling out Android Oreo to the Sprint carrier version of HTC U11. There is also Android security update for November 2017 to fix some of the major existing vulnerabilities and bugs. It will come to the unlocked version of last year's flagship HTC 10, too. From these, we can draw the conclusion that the HTC 10, the Ultra, and the U11 Life are also close to getting the software update. The U11 runs a almost stock version of Android 7.1.1 and has some pretty powerful internals (such as the Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB RAM and 12MP rear camera) along with some useful gimmicky features (such as the "squeezable" Edge Sense and multiple AI-based assistants).
