The Chelsea midfielder, who is on loan at London rivals Crystal Palace for the duration of 2017-18, lasted just 35 minutes at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday evening before being replaced by Jesse Lingard.

Marcus Rashford, who played for the last half an hour on Friday night, is believed to be in line to start up front alongside Jamie Vardy, while Southgate has also said he "will not hesitate" to throw youngsters Dominic Solanke, Lewis Cook and Angus Gunn into action.

But England boss Gareth Southgate told reporters ahead of Palace's clash with Everton this weekend: "It's a problem with his back which he has had periodically so I think we're ok". He is strong, he has quality.

Loftus-Cheek, who has started only six league games at Chelsea in the last three years, has starred at struggling Palace but can not be recalled as he is on a year-long loan.

Loftus-Cheeks' Crystal Palace head to the Hawthorns to face West Brom when the Premier League resumes again on Saturday. He has a great future'.

Chelsea will hope that Loftus-Cheek can return to the club a much improved player. The lack of young English players being given a chance is hurting the English game in general, in the Bundesliga young, talented German prospects are given the opportunity to show that they belong and that should be the case in the Premier League, the Premier League have players that certainly can't be worse than some of the players that some Premier League teams are operating with.
