Crystal Palace midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has set his sights on playing for England at next summer's World Cup.

But England also had some bright moments, with midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek making an assured debut and Tammy Abraham desperately close to scoring with his first touch in senior global football in the second minute.

England held world champions Germany to a 0-0 draw after giving debuts to five players as their inexperienced team came through a first-half lesson in a lively Wembley friendly on Friday. "It was a really tactical game".

Benatia sends Morocco to World Cup
Dirar opened the scoring off a cross-turned-shot on 25 minutes and Benatia doubled the lead after a corner on the half-hour. Morocco sealed its place by winning in Ivory Coast 2-0 in what was a straight shootout for the place from Group C.

"I'm really not surprised with what they've done because they've shown that previously in the younger ages, they've shown that this week in training", Southgate said. Against a well-oiled machine, they will have periods in the game where they control possession but I didn't think they hurt us. Gareth said to do my best like I normally do. I had Gareth in charge for almost three years at the Under-21s and the boys have been great. "I've settled in really well and they gave me a platform to go out and play".

Dier was one of three Spurs players in Gareth Southgate's starting line-up, alongside defensive duo, Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier - as the Three Lions gave a good account of themselves as preparations step up ahead of next summers FIFA World Cup Finals in Russian Federation. I see things in him that lead me to believe he can play at this level.

"I certainly learnt a lot in this game so it (was) a good night". He's one that for the wider public may have flown under the radar a bit until now.
