  • Huge blow for Gareth Bale as Real Madrid release statement

Madrid's next match is a tough visit to crosstown rival Atletico Madrid on November 18 after the worldwide break.

There is no estimate for the length of time the Real star will be missing but it is just the latest in a series of injury blows that have blighted Bale in 2017.

The Wales global, who left Spurs in 2013 for a then-record fee of £85m, has struggled to consistently impress at Real Madrid. In four full seasons, he has lifted the Champions League three times and scored 70 goals.

However, for many in Madrid those moments have been far too fleeting for the club's record purchase.

In his absence over the past year, home favourites Isco and Marco Asensio have starred and it would cause serious disquiet in the stands and the dressing room at the Bernabeu if they were to be squeezed out to make room for Bale when fit.

My son is addicted to football as much as me — Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo was angry with Isco after Real Madrid's victory over Las Palmas on Sunday, according to reports in Spain. Even in the La Liga game Ronaldo did score in, at Getafe, the Portuguese superstar missed an absolute sitter as well.

Fans have been desperate to see Bale reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in attack following the club's slow start to the campaign.

On that occasion, the 28-year-old suffered a calf injury that ruled him out of Wales' decisive World Cup qualification defeat to the Republic of Ireland last month.

The potential of former Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale always seems to remain unfulfilled at Real Madrid.

Gareth Bale's injuries have limited his appearances this season.
