Pakistan allows wife to meet Jhadav on 'humanitarian grounds'

Kulbhushan Jadhav is an Indian national on death row in Pakistan.

The decision has been taken "purely on humanitarian grounds" and conveyed to the Indian authorities, the Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said in a statement. "A Note Verbale has been sent to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, today", a foreign office statement said.

According to reputed sources, speculations were flying high about the recent successful meeting between India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Sawraj and the newly-appointed Pakistani diplomatist to national capital Sohail Mahmood, the daily said.

Kulbhushan Jhadev, a serving Commander of the Indian Navy, working with Indian Intelligence Agency RAW was apprehended by Pakistan law enforcement agencies a year ago after he illegally crossed over into Pakistan.

However, India has always maintained its firm stand that he was kidnaped from Iran wherever he had business interests after retiring from the prestigious Indian Navy.

Pakistan authorities had claimed that they had arrested Jadhav from Baluchistan and he was engaged in subversive activities and espionage. By an order of June 13, 2017, the President of the ICJ had fixed September 13, 2017 and December 13, 2017 as the respective time limits for the filing of a memorial by India and a counter-memorial by Pakistan.

To this end, India's written response was submitted to registrar Philippe Couvreur of the ICJ.
