In an interview set to air Sunday, Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Aly Raisman said she was abused by former Team USA gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

Dr. Nassar accepted a plea deal in July that would have him serve a combined sentence of 22-27 years for possession of child pornography, rather than charge him with sexual assault - a widely criticized move prosecutors justified by saying that numerous allegations they heard occurred overseas, where they have no jurisdiction.

The former Michigan State doctor, who was sacked by USA Gymnastics in 2015, was previously accused of sexual misconduct by Raisman's fellow Fierce Five member McKayla Maroney and Sydney bronze medalist Jamie Dantzscher.

Last month, McKayla Maroney, 21, detailed how Nassar began molesting her at the age of 13 at a U.S. national team training camp. Raisman said. "What did USA Gymnastics do, and Larry Nassar do, to manipulate these girls so much that they are so afraid to speak up?"

Raisman said of people who have asked why the athletes didn't speak out earlier. I care a lot you know, when I see these young girls that come up to me, and they ask for pictures or autographs, whatever it is, I just. "These girls, they should be comfortable going to USA Gymnastics and saying 'I need help, I want therapy".

Aly Raisman won two silver medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as team gold.

Yahoo, Equifax apologize with fixes. Congress doesn't buy it
Richard Smith , who was Equifax's CEO when the attack occurred earlier this year, also is set to testify. Yahoo had bumped its estimate of affected accounts from a previous 1B to all of them (3B in total).

More than 140 women are now suing Nassar and his former employer, Michigan State University. Raisman said that she spoke to FBI investigators after the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but the Indianapolis Star later reported that USA Gymnastics didn't report sexual abuse allegations until the athlete or a parent did so. In 1996, he was named national medical coordinator, a position he held until the summer of 2015.

Nassar's case was part of a wide-ranging scandal which forced the resignation of USA Gymnastics chief Steve Penny previous year.

Dantzscher also filed a lawsuit against Nassar in California last September as "Jane Doe".

It was commissioned by USA Gymnastics and conducted by Deborah Daniels, a former Federal prosecutor, who spent a significant portion of her career prosecuting child sexual offenders, and scrutinised the organisation's methods.
