  • Twitter Has a White-Nationalist Verification Problem

Twitter really didn't help itself when it verified the account of Jason Kessler, the man who organized that rally and later used Twitter to defame Hayer and referred to her death "payback time".

"Looks like I FINALLY got verified by Twitter", Kessler wrote in a tweet Tuesday.

But, as Twitter, notes, "a verified badge does not imply an endorsement by Twitter". "And we failed by not doing anything about it", tweeted Dorsey.

In response to Dorsey's tweet, some users criticized the tech firm for verifying Kessler in the first place.

Kessler's verification spawned an uproar among Twitter users, as it was seen as the company's endorsement of Kessler's beliefs.

Bendis started his run at Marvel in 2000 with Ultimate Spider-Man, the start of a 111-issue run alongside artist Mark Bagley. Bendis later retweeted the announcement, confirming it is real and not some nefarious plot by the Anti-Monitor.

If you've been on the cusp of receiving Twitter's coveted blue checkmark, you're going to have to wait longer. "I must be the only working class white advocate with that distinction". But having a verified account on Twitter is a status symbol that confers perks such as appearing at the top of searches.

The social media company was criticised after Jason Kessler, who organised the Unite the Right rally which sparked violence in the United States town of Charlottesville in August, tweeted on Wednesday to confirm he had been verified by the platform.

"This is disgusting", tweeted the comedian Michael Ian Black.

It added, "We recognise that we have created this confusion and need to resolve it". However, some far-right and white-supremacist accounts too have been verified causing huge concern among the top executives of the popular social media site. The badge lets users know you are indeed looking at the real Kim Kardashian's account, for example, rather than the 50,000 bootleg versions. Kessler's own Twitter account isn't lacking in exactly the frightful behavior Twitter claims to be trying to stamp out, which puts his verification seemingly at odds with the company's past actions.

Top Twitter officials weighed in on the Kessler decision Thursday from their personal accounts.
