  • Packers TE Martellus Bennett out Week 10 with shoulder injury

Starting tight end Martellus Bennett will be out for the game at the Chicago Bears (10 a.m. on WTMJ).

By cutting Bennett with that designation, it sets up the Packers' case for a grievance to reclaim the $4.2 million in remaining prorated signing bonus money.

Martellus Bennett won't get the chance to play the Packers' remaining games this season "for you", those who made his National Football League career possible, as he wrote in a social media post last week announcing his potential retirement. Bennett started the team's first seven games and caught 24 passes for 233 yards, but he was inactive because of the shoulder injury for Monday night's loss to Detroit.

"Martellus Bennett will not practice this week, he will not be available for the game", coach Mike McCarthy said before Wednesday's practice.

"I know he was in here [Tuesday]", McCarthy said prior to Wednesday's practice.

ESPN reporter Field Yates revealed the news on Wednesday. If they do, Bennett would have to return $4.2 million.

Six teams have a 100 percent GSR: men's fencing, rifle, pistol, men's volleyball, women's tennis and women's volleyball. More specifically, 14 Ohio State programs are equal to or ahead of the national GSR for their sports.

With a Chicago-based family and a passion for art and creativity, the 30-year-old Bennett was asked during training camp if he had considered retiring after winning a Super Bowl with New England last season.

The Packers have two other tight ends on the roster in Lance Kendricks and Richard Rodgers.

Bennett returned with the rest of the team on October 31 and took part in practice that day.

Bennett had been battling a shoulder injury. They didn't give him one, and, concerned about his locker room presence, traded him a year later.

According to ESPN, the Packers have released Bennett.
