Former Clevelander Brian Michael Bendis has switched sides and will now write comics exclusively for DC, according to a DC tweet. And now he's jumped ship to DC.
Famed Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis is leaving the company and has signed an exclusive deal with rival DC Comics. "He's one of the premiere writers in the industry having created so many unforgettable stories wherever he's been and we can't wait to see what he has planned for the DC Universe".
Regardless, Bendis is a prolific and inventive writer - not just in comics and animated series (Spider-Man), but screenplays and games too.
"Brian is a great partner and has contributed incredible stories and characters to the Marvel Universe over the years", a representative for Marvel told Newsarama.
Bendis later retweeted the announcement, confirming it is real and not some nefarious plot by the Anti-Monitor.
Bendis confirmed the news shortly after, saying "change is good". "Details to come! Stay tuned!"
Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada also commented about Bendis on Twitter, thanking him while reassuring Marvel fans that there was no reason to feel down about the company's plans for the year ahead.
Bendis started his run at Marvel in 2000 with Ultimate Spider-Man, the start of a 111-issue run alongside artist Mark Bagley.
Bendis has been writing for Marverl for nearly 18 years, with titles like Ultimate Spider-Man, House of M, Daredevil, and Secret Invasion.
I'm no fan of Bendis especially after he snaked Guardians of the Galaxy from Abnett and Lanning and ruined the comics and characters. This is an interesting announcement given that he is now writing Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man II, Jessica Jones, and Defenders for Marvel.
