Workers earning the Living Wage are set to receive a pay rise.

Around 22% of jobs in the United Kingdom pay below the voluntary rate of £9.75 an hour in London and £8.45 in the rest of the United Kingdom, both well above the statutory national living wage of £7.50 for over 25-year-olds, said KPMG.

Almost twice as many (17 percent) of those earning below the real Living Wage noted a decline in pay compared to those that recorded an increase (9 percent).

"The new living wage rates will bring relief for thousands of United Kingdom workers being squeezed by stagnant wages and rising inflation", Chapman said.

"It's thanks to the leadership of employers across Scotland who are committed to paying all their staff, including cleaners and security staff, a real living wage".

Entry level wages for Lidl employees are set to increase 3.6 per cent outside of London from £8.45 to £8.75 per hour, making them the highest paid supermarket employees in the UK.

Hundreds of Lidl workers are set for a pay increase as the discount retailer pushes to pay its workers the living wage.

However, Lidl has not formally accredited with the Living Wage Foundation, which would commit the firm to pay rises every year.

It differs from the government's national living wage, which replaced the minimum wage for workers aged 25 and over in April 2016.

Northern Ireland is the worst part of the United Kingdom for wages which are deemed to be insufficient to live on, according to a new report. "We encourage other employers in Oxford to adopt the Oxford Living Wage". Half of 1,000 adults polled said they felt uncomfortable talking about their impairment or asking for work adjustments, said disability charity Scope. But more companies need to sign up.

On the decision, managing director of Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland John Paul Scally said: "At Lidl we are in a fortunate position that the last few years have seen our business go from strength to strength in Northern Ireland".
