But Trump has demonstrated cordial relations with Xi and struck up a friendship with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, with whom he planned to golf on Sunday. "We want Putin's help on North Korea, and we'll be meeting with a lot of different leaders", Trump said.

Some regional analysts have speculated that Trump's presence in Asia may prompt North Korea to take provocative action, such as carrying out a missile test. But in Japan, where grieving relatives of the abducted have become a symbol of heartbreak on the scale of American POW families, the government insists almost 50 people were taken - and believes some may be alive.

As they entered the dining room, Trump and Abe signed a white hat that said: "Donald and Shinzo: Make Alliance Even Greater".

"And I hope it all works out for everybody".

The next stop was a golfing date with his "friend" Shinzo Abe, prime minister of Japan, with whom he enjoys a close personal relationship.

North Korea is the critical issue looming over Trump's 12-day, five-country trip that will include direct talks with Trump's Chinese and Russian counterparts.

According to the Washington Post, Pentagon officials have warned that the only way to locate and secure North Korea's nuclear weapons sites would be via a ground invasion.

Two members of the U.S. Congress, in a letter to the Pentagon, had asked about casualty assessments in a possible conflict with North Korea.

Jimmy Fallon's Mother Dies After Host Misses Friday Show
'Jimmy Fallon's mother, Gloria, died peacefully on Saturday, ' a Fallon family spokesperson said in a statement. Back in June, he told Howard Stern that his mother was a "total square" and used to be a nun.

"Every once in a while, in the past, they underestimated us". They played nine holes together on Sunday at Kasumigaseki Country Club, where they were joined by Japanese pro golfer Hideki Matsuyama.

President Donald Trump has arrived in Japan, the initial stop on his first official visit to Asia. The prime minister was the first to call after the 2016 election, and rushed to NY days later to meet Trump and present him with a pricey, gold Honma golf driver.

Mr Peskov said: "There is no cooperation so far".

However, Trump's forceful rhetoric is not expected to receive such a warm welcome in other countries he is scheduled to visit. But, "there's no single place I'd rather begin my trip than right here with all with you, the incredible men and women of the United States military [and] your wonderful partners, the [Air Defense Command of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force]", Trump said. He said they were able to "carry out in depth discussion, at times touching on various hard issues".

From the moment Marine One landed on the Kasumigaseki Country Club's driving range, Mr Abe rolled out little touches to make Mr Trump feel welcome.

He presented the United States with a hat embroidered with the words "Donald and Shinzo: Make Alliance Even Greater" - a play on Mr Trump's 2016 election campaign theme. The two passed up the region's Kobe beef in favour of the American version, which is favoured by Trump, a picky eater. The grand receptions expected for him in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing and beyond are sure to be lavish attempts to impress the president, who raved about the extravagances shown him on earlier visits to Saudi Arabia and France.

Meanwhile, North Korea ruled out talks and threatened to increase its nuclear arsenal in a fresh warning to Mr. Trump's administration on Saturday. But speaking to reporters en route to Japan, Trump bristled at the suggestion that he'll be at a disadvantage in his meetings with Xi.
