  • Loud explosion heard near Riyadh airport

Saudi Arabia said its forces have intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen towards one of the kingdom's major global airports on the outskirts of the capital, Riyadh.

The Saudi air force shot down the alleged weapon on Saturday, Al Arabiya reports, adding that no damage has been caused.

Saudi Arabia's Civil Aviation Authority confirmed on Twitter that the missile had been brought down near the International King Khalid Airport in Riyadh.

The claims followed a report that Houthi rebels in Yemen - who are engaged in a long-running war with Saudi-backed forces - had fired a ballistic missile at their northern neighbor.

The missile was destroyed near Riyadh's King Khaled worldwide airport and was said to be of "limited size".

A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to prop up Hadi's government after the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa.

While he was serving for the match, Nadal hardly had any spring as he double-faulted. "It's not the thing that I love to do". He has only reached the final once, on his debut in 2007, losing to David Nalbandian.

For two and a half years Saudi Arabia has led a coalition fighting Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The missile was sacked at 8:07 p.m. local time (1:07 p.m. ET) and targeted civilian areas in Riyadh, the coalition said.

"The Saudi regime can not hide the heavy fires that was seen by thousands of Saudi nationals in the King Khalid Airport premises as result of the Yemeni missile", the official said.

Government forces repelled several attacks by Houthi rebels and allied forces of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh in the province over the past 24 hours, military spokesman Col. Abdul-Basit al-Bahr told Anadolu Agency.

"This is not the end".
