Twitter users praised the employee who suspended President Donald Trump's account on Thursday, with some even recommending the individual for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The platform, alongside Google and Facebook, also spent the better part of the week testifying in congressional hearings about efforts to curb misuse, in part by hiring additional employees, according to the Times. The incident has sparked concern about how the social media site handles its affairs and who it tasks with key responsibilities.

"We are conducting a full internal review", it said on the official Twitter Government account.

A Twitter customer support employee performed the community service on his last day.

"Liberals were celebrating for the 15 minutes that Trump's Twitter disappeared, proving once again they love censorship and hate free speech", one popular tweet read.

Twitter users visiting Trump's account around 7:00 pm were greeted with the message "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!" "I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact", he wrote.

"That this could happen to a president's account demonstrates Twitter has poor insider threat controls and indicators", he said in a tweet.

It's not uncommon for technology companies like Twitter to rely on third-party workers for a range of tasks, some of them more sensitive than others. The person who shut down Mr. Trump's account was a contractor, the people said.

Trump's account disruption comes hours after tweeting that he was backing off the idea of sending the NY terrorism suspect to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, calling for a regular federal trial and the death penalty instead.
