China has fallen in a global ranking for gender equality for a ninth year in a row, coming in at 100 among 144 countries despite decades of economic advances, according to an worldwide study.

Eastern Europe and Central Asia has closed on average 71 per cent of its gender gap, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report.

The position of Chinese women has worsened over the a year ago, according to the 2017 Global Gender Gap Report, released Wednesday by the World Economic Forum (WEF). It has successfully closed more than 87% of its overall gender gap, the report revealed.

After improving its ranking in the same gender gap index past year, the country has slipped 21 spaces from its 87th position in 2016 to land at 108. Women in the United States do find parity with men in educational attainment and get close on metrics of health and survival.

China slipped a notch to 100th and "remains the world's lowest-ranked country with regard to the gender gap in its sex ratio", it said. This retreat backwards means that, at the current rate of progress, the global gender gap would take 100 years to disappear entirely, compared to 83 last year.

In economic participation and opportunity, no country has fully closed the gender gap, but 13 countries (two more than last year) have closed more than 80 percent of their gap.

Brock Osweiler will once again be the Broncos' starting quarterback on Sunday
Denver had to make a change from Siemian, but it's not like they brought in a Pro Bowl quarterback. Despite the Texans going 8-6 under him and winning a playoff game, Osweiler struggled last season.

Iceland has ranked at the top position in the Global Gender Gap Index. Countries in Eastern Europe possess a broad talent pool of highly educated women but are failing to reap the full rewards of that latent potential.

It is the second year in a row that the Swiss non-profit has recorded worsening economic inequality, which is calculated by measuring how many men and women participate in the labour force, their earned incomes and their job advancement.

"The remuneration gap is captured through a hard-data indicator [ratio of estimated female-to-male earned income] and a qualitative indicator gathered through the World Economic Forum's annual Executive Opinion Survey [wage equality for similar work]", the WEF said. However, at the current rate of progress, the gender gap will take almost 100 years to bridge, WEF said.

The further away the score is from 0, the higher the "distance to parity" in the country for that sub index appears to be. They included the region's top economies, including China, Japan, India and South Korea.

About 23 per cent of the political gap has been closed, which is unchanged since past year against a long-term trend of slow but steady improvement. "Also, keeping in mind all the reforms happening at the moment, next year's report results seem to be even more promising".

"In 2017, we should not be seeing progress towards gender parity shift into reverse", Saadia Zahidi, WEF head of education, gender and work, said.
