Next Microsoft Surface Could Be Foldable, Make Calls

  • Microsoft reportedly working on Courier-like device for taking digital ...

Microsoft's dual-screen, foldable Courier device never made it to market (with some claiming manufacturing costs at that point in time made it infeasible). This new "foldable" tablet could be Surface-branded, something like Surface Note or Surface Journal. In addition to that, the notebook is created to mimic a real one with virtual pages that spread across the foldable device. Speculation on this possibly being the case of the mysterious phone stemmed from the patent Microsoft applied for and has been awarded, which leaked earlier this year. After all, Microsoft did cancel the Courier (image above) years ago, and it also killed the Surface Mini not too long ago.

Despite Microsoft's recent announcement that it is killing its Windows Phone, rumors about the Redmond-based company's mystical Surface Phone continues to circulate online.

If this report is to be believed, the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 might start selling more than just software. The notebook app itself is designed in a way that mimics writing in a real notebook, with virtual pages that spread across the foldable device.

Although Microsoft's mobile efforts in regards to Windows 10 Mobile are dead, the company isn't pulling out of mobile altogether.

Barzani announces his resignation as Iraq's Kurdish leader
The UN Security Council called on the Iraqi government and Kurdish leaders not to resort to power and for ending escalation. His son Masrour is now expected to be in the running to replace him when elections are held next.

It's no secret that Microsoft terminated Windows Mobile.

There are a number of other Microsoft apps and services beyond the obvious email and calendaring, that could make sense on a foldable mobile device. Various Office 365 services, including Teams, StaffHub, MileIQ (mileage-tracking) and Invoicing could make a lot of sense.

At Windows Central, we've been covering two ongoing internal projects within Microsoft: CShell and Windows Core OS. This will offer great user interface of a foldable display device. I'm unable to verify if the device will be able to run Win32 programs. The Andromeda would make practical use of digital pen and ink.

So, what exactly is this Andromeda device and why should you care? I'm not sure I can go back to a device where a pen is the primary input method, no matter how portable it is - and regardless of all the studies showing handwriting notes helps people remember them far better than typing.
