  • Flying to the US From a Foreign Country? You Might Be Interviewed Before You Board the Plane

Starting Thursday, US asked all airlines flying to the country nearly 2,100 daily flights from overseas to pose these questions to flyers as an additional security measure.

Following the American Department of Homeland Security directive to airlines flying to the US, Air India has also started asking passengers questions like the objective of their trips and about their check-in bags.

Although security measures appear to be getting more complex, most passengers are willing to comply in the name of safety.

Even as airlines have no choice but to comply with the new rules, industry bodies like the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) have raised concerns about the impact of such measures.

Passengers flying with Emirates will have to take part in "pre-screening interviews at the check-in counter", whereas Air France will be issuing questionnaires to its US-bound customers, according to The Guardian. "It's just inconvenient for the passengers", President and Chief Operating Officer Walter Cho told Reuters in Taipei.

In Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific has suspended in-town check-in services as well as self-bag drop services for passengers booked on flights to the United States, except for those travelling on Flight CX888 to NY via Vancouver. It could mean delays and headaches for travelers and airline companies.

Singapore Airlines Ltd said the security checks could include inspections of personal electronic devices as well as security questioning during check-in and boarding. AI and United are the only two airlines that fly nonstop between India and US. He said, "What we have seen is very unusual ..." "Unilateral measures announced without any prior consultation".

Virgin Atlantic has said the new rules won't disrupt customers. Passengers also had to have their carry-on bags searched, along with their electronics.

The TSA said in July it was imposing new security rules requiring US domestic airline travelers to remove all electronic items larger than mobile phones such as tablets, e-readers and video game consoles from carry-on baggage for screening.
