"We love being at the forefront of Apple's investment in scripted programming", Jennifer Salke, NBC's entertainment president, said in a statement.

The consumer electronics giant has signed a deal with Spielberg's Amblin Television and Comcast 's ( CMCSA ) NBCUniversal television production unit to make new episodes of "Amazing Stories." a science-fiction and horror anthology series that ran on NBC in the 1980s, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. The show has since developed a cult-like status. It was not clear if Mr. Spielberg will be actively involved in the series. That sort of Hollywood firepower won't come cheap - the show will reportedly cost around $5 million per episode to produce - though that's roughly in line with what Netflix is budgeting for many of its own programs.

We've reached out to Apple for comment on the report.

Theresa May's Got Three Months To Figure This Brexit Ish Out
May, however, struck a confident tone during her speech on Monday, telling MPs: "I believe we can prove the doomsayers wrong". Losing the vote could see May resign as Prime Minister as she would hold an untenable position in Westminster.

Apple has committed $1B to developing original programming over the next year and has hired top talent including former Sony TV executives Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht. With fellow tech companies like Facebook entering this space, the original content landscape looks primed for change in the near future.

It's maybe an odd choice - a not-widely-remembered '80s TV show - but "odd" is also the way you might describe Apple's foray into original content to begin with. Its Carpool Karaoke spin-off series debuted this fall, and Cupertino unveiled an app development competition series (called Planet of the Apps) at WWDC this summer.

To be sure, Amazing Stories was just one of the handful of early projects that sources say Apple has bid on.
