Playing hard East Lake Golf Club, Thomas joined Webb Simpson and Paul Casey atop the leaderboard at 7 under through the first two rounds.

The powerful Thomas eagled the par-five 18th after hoisting a five-iron to five feet for a four-under-par 66 on another benign day at East Lake in Atlanta. Four golfers are at six under (Patrick Reed, Justin Rose, Gary Woodland and Jon Rahm), and three more are at five under (Xander Schauffele, Jason Dufner and Brooks Koepka), creating numerous potential outcomes.

However, FedEx Cup leader Jordan Spieth struggled with his putting as he went round in 70 to leave himself on three under.

Thomas, who is chasing his sixth win of the season, shot a 4-under 66 in Round 2.

The American, who had shared the lead overnight at East Lake, was one under for his round after five holes and playing steadily as he approached the easiest hole on the course - the par-five sixth.

"I get done and look back and I'm surprised we're at 3-under", he said.

There are now five Game of Thrones prequels in the works
The universe of the fantastic series of HBO will last even after the final episode of the show ... Martin hinted at Cogman's fifth prequel in a post to his LiveJournal page this past May.

He already can state his case as the best player on the PGA Tour this year, with five victories and his first major at the PGA Championship.

Much like Spieth in 2015 when he ended his best season with the FedEx Cup, Thomas would love to have the flawless ending. He finished sixth in the tournament past year. "I need Jordan and Justin to finish outside the top three I think, but coming in number eight gave me a realistic chance".

A birdie on 16 put him back on top, only for Thomas to eagle at the last to throw another spoke in the calculations.

"I've had a very good season to this point but I would like to turn it into a great one - and the way to do it would be with victory this week".

Leishman ended his round on a high note with a long, curling putt for birdie at the par-5 18th but it was one of only two on the day against three dropped shots.

"Guys are right there, sort of biting at your heels", he said.
