Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had called an emergency meeting on Thursday night, with police officers being invited to state secretariat Nabanna, had hinted that she may move the apex court against the verdict. The state had restricted immersions from 6 pm on September 30 till October 1, the day of Muharram. The High Court has dismissed the notification of the Mamta Government while rejecting the order of the state government on the ban on immersion of Durga statues on the day of Muharram.

Turning the table he argued that the high court's ruling did not go against the state government.

He also cautioned the people about rumours in social media and said, "Verify any news you are receiving before forwarding them to others".

He said, "We have seen since past year that fake messages were spread".
