  • Red Bull's Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo drives during the second practice session of the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix in Singapore

Before a new contract for 2018-2021 was announced on Friday, the Singapore night race - now one of F1's blue-riband events - had mere provisional status on next year's calendar. Here is a look at the odds to win this race.

S. Iswaran, Minister of Singapore's Trade and Industry, said that the F1 Singapore Grand Prix has made significant revenue for the country's economy as well as motorsport's franchise. The race is a 192-mile contest that will run 61 laps around the track.

Vettel has been able to dominate this race, winning four times in his career. While Hamilton (top of the rankings with 238 points) and Vettel (235) are the clear favourites, Daniel Ricciardo in fourth place will fancy his chances, having placed second here behind departing Nico Rosberg in 2016.

The temperature is expected to exceed 30C during the night-time race but, with 80 per cent humidity, and with their race suits on, the drivers will have to endure temperatures of about 50C in the cockpit. During the race, Ricciardo stormed through the field, making up 11 positions on the way to a sensational fourth place finish. He has finished third in five other races.

It will not be easy to take maximum points this weekend though - no team has ever taken a one-two in Singapore, and Kimi Raikkonen is now on a barren run of 88 races without a victory.

Alonso said that Indianapolis 500 was an option for him since he already took part in this year's edition of the race, missing the Monaco GP.
