  • Harry Dean Stanton, Actor and WWII Veteran, Dies at Age 91

Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp were lifelong friends.

Following the news of his death, Lynch released a statement calling Stanton not only a great actor, but also a "great human being".

After "Paris, Texas", Stanton hit the mainstream, with beloved roles in films like "Pretty in Pink" and "Repo Man".

I shamefully admit that my first memories of Stanton are from Pretty in Pink, but what else would you expect from a girl who grew up during the '80s and '90s.

Science fiction fans probably remember him best as Brett, the cat-loving Nostromo crew member in the original Alien.

Fitting for a character actor, he only became famous in late middle age.

Stanton landed his first leading role for Paris, Texas during an unassuming conversation with Sam Shepard at a bar in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Stanton amassed almost 200 acting credits, according to the Internet Movie Database.

He comes back and finds her in a Houston peep show, where he delivers a 10-minute monologue through a one-way mirror.

Kaspersky Banned in US Federal Agencies
In the Russian embassy in the United States , the ban on using Kaspersky Anti-Virus was called a continuation of russophobia. Homeland Security says it fears Russian Federation could gain access to info that would put US national security at risk.

"'Paris, Texas' allowed me to play empathy", Stanton told a questioner, "and I'm spelling that with a capital C".

Stanton continued to work steadily through the 1990s and 2000s, averaging two or three films a year - of variable quality, it has to be admitted.

His legend would only grow.

Stanton's last movie, "Lucky", about the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist, is to have a red carpet premiere at the Kentucky Theater Sept. 28 at this year's Harry Dean Stanton Festival, said Fred Mills, manager of the theater. Everyone loved him. And with good reason. There is no such person as Harry Dean. "There's nobody like Harry Dean". He's got this easygoing nature. "So long Harry Dean", said Ruffalo. As a musician, he can sing so beautifully tears just flow out of your eyes.

Although the prolific actor worked with several popular directors from the industry, including David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock, John Huston and Martin Scorsese, he was never nominated for any principal acting awards.

In his early years, he went by the name Dean Stanton because there was another actor named Harry Stanton.

Later, he used music as an escape from his parents' quarreling and the sometimes brutal treatment he was subjected to by his father.

As a grown-up, he fronted his own particular band for a considerable length of time, playing western, Mexican, shake and pop guidelines in little settings around Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.

As a young man, he also served in World War II in the United States Navy, and was a cook aboard an LST ship during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Resolved to make it in Hollywood, he picked tobacco to procure his admission west.
