Australia captain Lleyton Hewitt hailed the fighting spirit of Nick Kyrgios after the enigmatic star's Davis Cup victory over Steve Darcis in Brussels.

New Zealander Ben McLachlan, who has switched allegiance to play for Japan, is expected to make his Davis Cup bow in the doubles.

"Davis Cup has done wonders for me this year", Kyrgios said.

In recent times, Belgium has had the wood on Australia - winning on both clay and hardcourt in 2007 and 2010.

Goffin, returning from a knee injury and who took some three-and-a-half hours to defeat Millman on Friday, has lost his three encounters with Kyrgios, although the match will be their first meeting on clay.

Australia has played Belgium four times. It's clear that Kyrgios plays much more focused in Davis Cup, and a team atmosphere might just be what he needs to play his best tennis.

Victory for Tsonga comes after France found themselves unexpectedly trailing 1-0 at home to Serbia when Lucas Pouille was stunned 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7) 7-6 (5) by Dusan Lajovic in the first singles match on Friday. Accompanying Kyrgios on the opening day of singles action will be his conqueror at the U.S Open, John Millman.

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale calls for calm after hard start
I want to consolidate myself as a starter, and win many titles that with the team we have is very likely". My intention was to succeed here, in the team that put their trust in me when I was at Malaga.

A fan of basketball, the team nature of Davis Cup has rekindled his interest and motivation, dismissing any injury issues with his shoulder as the weekend's semi-final is his priority. He has created history when representing his country before, however. "We must be favourites going into the doubles tomorrow". Peers triumphed with partner Henri Kontinen at the Australian Open in January, while Thompson has one doubles title to his resume, coming in Brisbane earlier this year.

David Goffin, now ranked 12th in the world, scored Belgium's first point of the tie as he came from a set down to beat Australian John Millman at Palais 12 in Brussels.

Despite his strong form on the world stage, Peers was overlooked by a succession of Davis Cup captains until Hewitt took over and gave him his debut against the United States of America a year ago.

"You'd also be wrong if you tried to lump me in the same category as Bernard Tomic", world No. 20 Kyrgios wrote in a blog on www.playersvoice.com.au. Australia will fancy their chances in the doubles, meaning that if Kyrgios can win his two singles matches, Australia will be moving on to the final.

Who do you think will reach the final?

Having taken the first set, Kyrgios was broken at the start of the second and although he saved three set points in game nine, the Australian netted a forehand, allowing Darcis to level.
