Kaspersky Banned in US Federal Agencies

Homeland Security says it fears Russian Federation could gain access to info that would put US national security at risk. Today, most of its business comes from outside Russian Federation, and the company boasts 400 million users and 270,000 corporate clients worldwide.

Kaspersky Lab denied that it has ties to the Kremlin, BBC reported.

Also on Sept 14, the US Senate came a step closer to passing legislation that would codify the Trump administration's ban, voting to expand an amendment to a pending defence policy spending bill to prohibit both federal civilian and military agencies from using Kaspersky Lab products.

The statement from DoHS orders all federal departments and agencies to "identify any presence of Kaspersky products on their information systems in the next 30 days, develop detailed plans to remove and discontinue present and future use of the products in the next 60 days".

This follows the USA government raising concerns that the company is "vulnerable to influence from the Kremlin", and giving federal agencies 90 days to stop using Kaspersky security software and remove it from their systems.

Also in July, the U.S. government's General Services Administration removed Kaspersky Lab from a list of approved vendors. "This is especially concerning because the Russian government is actively trying to undermine our democracy". In a tweet, Kaspersky Lab said that the two companies have "suspended" their relationship, which they said may be "re-evaluated" in the future.

Indian soldier killed in Pakistan firing in Kashmir
Despite a ceasefire agreement that was reached in November 2003, sporadic skirmishes continue in Kashmir. He sustained multiple bullet injuries in the incident and died while being rushed to a hospital.

"The department is concerned about the ties between certain Kaspersky officials and Russian intelligence and other government agencies", she said in a statement. Kaspersky products will now be withdrawn from stores and the firm's website.

Best Buy pulled Kaspersky software products from its shelves in the last several weeks.

"I am honored and accept the invitation to give evidence to the Committee of the USA house of representatives on science, space and technology, and if I can summarily get a visa, I hope to publicly respond to allegations about my company and its products", said Kaspersky.

However, the company has not been able to shake off the allegations.

Federal contracting databases reviewed by Reuters show only a few hundred thousand dollars in purchases from Kaspersky, and an employee told Reuters in July the company's federal government revenue was "miniscule".

Bloomberg suggested that the tools not only deflected cyber-attacks, but also captured information about the hackers launching them, to pass on to Russian intelligence services. In the Russian embassy in the United States, the ban on using Kaspersky Anti-Virus was called a continuation of russophobia.
