Google appeals $2.7 billion European Union fine

In June, the European Commission slapped Google with $2.74 billion in fine for anti-trust violations related to the search engine giant's favoritism towards its online shopping service over competitors.

However, setting up a court battle between Brussels and the internet giant could take years to resolve and make already tense relations between Europe and the United States tech giant even more fraught, AFP reported.

The EC has ordered Google to stop its anti-competitive behaviour by 28 September, or risk penalty payments of as much as 5 percent of Alphabet's average daily worldwide turnover.

Google is fighting its record $2.7 billion antitrust fine from the European Commission.

Intel lost its first appeal, but persisted, and on Wednesday the case was referred back to the court that had rejected it with the instruction to allow Intel to challenge more of the evidence against it.

Instead, Bethel got a running start towards the end zone as he happily picked off the pass to give Arizona an early 7-0 lead. His first touchdown, a 10-yarder, displayed the 6-foot-4, 213-pound receiver's catch radius and leaping ability.

Google last week notified the European Union it would attempt to meet the demands of the European Union decision.

"What Google has done is illegal under EU antitrust rules", EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager at the time.

"The commission will defend its decision in court", a spokesperson for the commission said.

Regulators are also expected to levy fines in separate investigations into Google's Android mobile-phone software - possibly as soon as next month - and the AdSense advertising service.

The commission said that since 2008, Google has systematically given prominent placement to its own comparison shopping service, while demoting rival comparison shopping services in its search results.
