Earlier Monday, the United Nations human rights chief, Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, said that the violence and injustice faced by the Rohingya "seems a textbook example of ethnic cleansing".

"The meeting called upon the government of Myanmar to accept the UN Human Rights Council's fact-finding mission to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into all alleged violations of global human rights law and to bring the perpetrators to justice", said the statement.
The foreign minister during those briefings referred to the recently published report of the Kofi Annan Commission and urged the worldwide community to pursue the Myanmar government for "immediate and unconditional" implementation of the recommendations.

Accounts from refugees show the Burmese military is also targeting civilians with shootings and wholesale burning of Rohingya villages in an apparent attempt to purge Rakhine state of Muslims.
In a report, the Inter-Sectoral Coordination Group said most of the new refugees, around 246,000, have been put up in temporary shelters and existing camps since an outbreak of violence on August 25, reports Efe news.
"This complete denial of reality is doing great damage to the worldwide standing of a government which, until recently, benefited from enormous good will", he said, calling on authorities to allow his office access to investigate the situation in the country.
Safura Khatun, 60, was among the hundreds who crossed into Bangladesh on Monday.
