English teams would still be able to sell players to other leagues with later deadlines but would not be able to bring in players under contract.

After undergoing a vote to decide whether or not the Premier League transfer window should close before the start of the season, it was announced earlier in the week that clubs had decided in favour of the change.

Following complaints by managers that transfer activity disturbs their preparations, clubs will not be able to register new players after 1600 GMT on the Thursday before the season starts.

The current window closed on August 31, more than two weeks after the start of the domestic campaign, but this will now change to 5 p.m. on the day before the start of the season.

Hull breached Premier League ticketing rules last season by not offering concessionary prices to children and senior citizens in certain parts of the KCOM Stadium.

The Premier League's chairman, Richard Scudamore, said there was an overwhelming sense that clubs wanted to begin the season with more certainty over their squad.

It is not an original observation that the circus of soccer's transfer window has come, in some ways, to overshadow the start of the playing season itself.

This means clubs will not be allowed to register any new players after 5pm on Thursday, August 9, 2018, although they will be able to sell players to clubs in leagues where the window is still open, as is now the case.

"The transfer window is exhausting", he said recently. On Thursday, the members of the league voted to close the window early.

Sales to clubs from countries where the window remains open are unaffected, meaning that protracted sagas like the one involving Barcelona's pursuit of wantaway Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho may still occur in future.

We did have managers' meetings before the season started.

"There is a lot of uncertainty for a long time". For me, if this period is shorter it is better.

In order to push the vote through, 14 Premier League teams had to vote in favour - which they did, only just, according to the Telegraph. "We are in serious discussions over shortening the transfer window".
