The announcement came soon after the US Forces Korea transported four additional THAAD rocket launchers into its new base in Seongju, some 300 kilometers south of Seoul, despite fierce protests by local residents and activists.

At a Conference on Disarmament in Geneva Wednesday, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations called Sunday's nuclear test a "gift package" for the U.S. - and warned there would be more.

North Korea might launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Saturday, as the country marks the anniversary of its founding, South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon on Thursday. The size and peanut-like shape of the weapon fits relatively well with known designs that could plausibly be bolted into a re-entry vehicle and paired with a ballistic missile capable of reaching the USA mainland. Every other country in the six-party talks with North Korea that collapsed in 2009-South Korea, Russia, Japan, and China-should have more incentive to pursue a diplomatic solution than the United States does.

As a relatively easy way to prevent Kim Jong-un from taking 50 million South Koreans as hostages, our government must persuade the U.S government and the Congress to approve of redeployment of tactical nuclear weapons which Uncle Sam withdrew from South Korea at the end of 1991.

September 7, 2017 (EIRNS)-South Korean President Moon Jae-in's meeting in Vladivostok with President Putin and other Russian officials presented an extremely promising approach to South Korean-Russian cooperation in the development of the Russian Far East.

"There is very little chance that we are ever going to talk this guy out of his weapons, and none of us who have been watching the situation closely for years really thought we were going to", as Mira Rapp-Hooper, a scholar at Yale Law School who studies North Korea, put when I spoke to her this week.

Donald Trump discusses North Korea threat with leaders of Germany, South Korea, Japan

A senior administration official downplayed Trump's remarks afterward, saying Trump had not meant to signal he would accept North Korea as a nuclear state.

"We should not give in to emotions and push Pyongyang into a corner", Mr Putin said in a news conference after meeting Mr Moon.

On Sunday, North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear test, claiming it had successfully detonated an H-bomb that can be mounted on a long-range missile. Moon has asked the United Nations to consider tough new sanctions on North Korea after the latest nuclear test. "There are real differences between North Korea and the small group of nations that have these weapons". "We estimate this was far bigger than previous nuclear tests". They said they agreed to create a free trade zone between Korea and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Putin also said Russian Federation and China created a roadmap to resolve the nuclear crisis, and asked concerned countries to pay attentions to it. "Rather, it is time to tighten the screws on North Korea with a view to forcing the regime to change its strategic calculation".

While it's not clear how - and if - the North Korea issue will be resolved, the USA has flatly rejected a Chinese proposal, backed by Russian Federation, for a suspension of hostilities on both sides.

North Korea conducted its 5th nuclear test on September 9 past year, and then carried out a 6th a week ago, saying it was a hydrogen bomb that could be fitted onto a missile - prompting global condemnation and calls for further sanctions.
