Star Wars Episode IX directors: who should replace Colin Trevorrow?

  • Colin Trevorrow no longer directing 'Star Wars Episode IX'

"Star Wars: Episode IX" is part of Disney's expanding slate of "Star Wars" movies, which was rebooted by 2015's hit, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", that reunited original 1977 stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. Speculation now places Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson as a likely candidate to take over the 2019-scheduled film - but, nothing against him or his work, he shouldn't.

In June Lucasfilm also fired the director of the standalone Han Solo film and replaced them with Ron Howard, the legandary director, famous for his movies like " A handsome mind (2001)" and " Rush (2013)".

This is the third filmmaker to leave the family Star Wars...

Maybe Lucasfilm has just been unlucky, or maybe they are having issues during their interview process, but either way, you can't keep pumping out Star Wars movies without people to direct them. Trevorrow had most recently directed the derided drama The Book of Henry and some anxious about how he would handle the gargantuan task of directing a Star Wars film - even with the box office cred he scored with Jurassic World, which made over $1.7 billion U.S. worldwide.

Whether it's pictures tweeted out from the set by a director or news of reshoots, the media (especially us here at Business Insider) rush to write it up.

BRICS leaders condemn NoKor's nuke test
There would be regular exchanges and meetings between their foreign ministers and United Nations representatives, he said. BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

It's an age-old cinematic fellowship that has weaved its way into everything from The Karate Kid to Batman Begins, and come December, writer-director Rian Johnson will be placing a laser focus on the teacher-student bond brewing between Rey and Luke Skywalker.

The director of Star Wars: Episode 9 has quit after a falling out with the film's producers, making him the fourth director to leave the franchise prematurely. And "Episode IX" (which is still in script stage) will soon be taken over by someone else.

MATT REEVES - If Lucasfilm is interested in coming full circle at the end of the trilogy, Reeves, a longtime pal and collaborator of Abrams would be a logical chioce. Or maybe he's just a brand new villain with a fresh backstory that is in no way connected to existing Star Wars mythology because sometimes new characters can be a breath of fresh air and present new opportunities rather than force a long running franchise to devour itself on a quest to feed nostalgic fans rather than create new ones? But that doesn't make it less any interesting thinking about it. Lucas has been bitter towards the stewards of the franchise he created ever since selling it to Disney for $4 billion. It's the un named installment slated to be released somewhere in 2019.

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN - While we're dreaming, the visionary behind "The Dark Knight", "Inception" and "Interstellar" would immediately be hailed as a slam dunk.
