Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has set up a mouth-watering quarter-final clash against seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams after defeating pre-tournament favorite Garbine Muguruza in straight sets on Sunday at the ongoing US Open.

After playing at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Kvitova is only playing in her eighth tournament of the year at the U.S Open. Open appearances at Stanford, Toronto, Cincinnati and New Haven.

Kvitova admitted to nerves in the final game, where she had to save three break points, roaring herself to victory. After saving this break point, and two that followed, Kvitova let out a huge "Pojd" roar, which really seemed to motivate her. Petra Kvitova won the next two games and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Muguruza buckled under the weight of expectation after winning her first grand slam title in Paris last summer but is embracing the pressure this time.

Kvitova has a greater appreciation for the tour lifestyle after an injury that put her career at risk.

The Czech star was slow off the mark against Muguruza following a loose start on Arthur Ashe, handing the third seed two break-point opportunities. "The world we live in is just shocking. That's why probably I am playing more relaxed and more free maybe", she told a news conference. "To be able to come out here and do what she needs to do, to clear her head, it's such a handsome thing to see".

"I don't think I can find the right words, it was a hard time, all five months (away) were very tough".

However, she has now taken out the Wimbledon champion and handed Elina Svitolina and Karolina Pliskova a shot of ending the event as world No. 1.
