Monsoon rains have killed at least five people, including two toddlers, in Mumbai as India's financial capital ground to a halt under flooding. In terms of records, this is said to be the eighth-highest amount of rainfall in a single day in Mumbai in the last four decades. Authorities, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and disaster management teams are monitoring the situation.

On Tuesday, the city received about 5 inches (127 millimeters) of rain and it's already hamstrung infrastructure collapsed.

Meanwhile, movement of traffic in the city was snail-paced due to heavy waterlogging at many junctions, like Kurla traffic division, Lal Bahadur Shastri Road, Surve Junction, Kurla Depo, Shital Talkies, Kamani Junction, Halav bridge on Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, a senior Mumbai Police official said.

Schools and colleges in Mumbai were closed on Wednesday due to the flooding, according to the Times of India.

The Western Naval Command has made arrangements to provide shelter to Mumbaikars who were left stranded after heavy rains lashed the metropolis yesterday. The train commuters had harrowing experiences in CR, WR and Harbor Line because they were running late due to flooded tracks. Thousands emerge from train stations to head to their offices every morning in the heart of Mumbai, but today there were people going into the stations to return home after a night out in the city.
