Local shelters are helping to take in displaced pets in hurricane-impacted areas.

Animal shelters along the Gulf of Mexico are preparing for a huge number of displaced cats and dogs.

"There is a reason that they say that dogs is a man's best friend, they were so patient with us all day, they were moved from crate to crate, from tarmac to airplane", Jarl added of the dogs.

"This is pretty unusual ... the only time we've ever done this before was with Hurricane Katrina", said Schaaf, explaining they will not be taking pets displaced by Harvey but, instead, will pick up animals that are now available for adoption from Louisiana.

Chicago shelters and rescue groups are opening their doors as Houston animal shelters try to clear space for all the pets stranded by Hurricane Harvey.

During Katrina, an estimated 250,000 dogs and cats were displaced or died, according to the ASPCA.

Mumbai limps back to normal as train services, flights resume
Authorities, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC ), and disaster management teams are monitoring the situation. In terms of records, this is said to be the eighth-highest amount of rainfall in a single day in Mumbai in the last four decades.

Shelters in nearby areas unaffected by the storm took in animals from evacuated facilities.

This isn't the first time PETA's rescue team has come to the aid of animals put at risk by a natural disaster.

On Sunday, the Harlingen Humane Society said they saved 36 animals from a shelter, which was destroyed by the storm. The agency is working with San Antonio Animal Care Services which will serve as a temporary emergency shelter pets. "They're going to be the one's left behind".

"People love their animals", said one volunteer staging for the new arrivals.

The animals will be transferred to partner shelters throughout New Jersey, including Father John's Animal House in Lafayette which has worked closely with St. Hubert's for many years.

We are taking part in our own mission from Cincinnati and will be part of a coalition of groups from the Northeast to assist as many animals as possible.
