  • Second day of high water rescues underway in Houston

The family of an elderly couple who drowned with their four great-grandchildren in raging floodwaters from Tropical Storm Harvey in Houston, Texas, revealed they died holding hands as the children screamed for help trapped inside a sinking van Sunday.

The van has not been located, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

His brother, said Ric, made it across the bridge only to encounter a dip in the road on the other side.

"The water picked the van up, and it was just floating after that", the children's uncle Ric Saldivar told ABC 13. Police haven't confirmed these deaths because "no bodies have been recovered at this time", but multiple relatives spoke with KHOU to corroborate the tragedy. Witnesses told the station that emergency crews in the area were not able to reach the van in time to rescue the six inside.

Hiser-Jackson said the rest of her family members in Texas are evacuating their homes and heading to a shelter in the Houston area. Sunday when rising water in Greens Bayou overcame the van.

Schulz mauls Merkel as German vote nears
That is up from 32 per cent in February but well below the 41.5 per cent her party won in the last election in 2013. Germany and France have tried to convince both sides to implement the Minsk deal, but with little success so far.

"No sleep & anxiety, please let this pass sooner", Devy Saldivar, 16, wrote on Facebook around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The storm, and the massive deluge of rains that it has brought, have inundated the city of Houston with floods the like of which officials say they haven't seen before.

Authorities weren't able to confirm the incident early Monday afternoon, but three family members verified the story to KHOU.

The survivor, who has not been identified, managed to grab onto a branch and told the children to climb out of the back door of the van, but they were unable to do so.

"He could hear the kids screaming and crying, trying to get out of the van", his brother, Ricardo Saldivar, told NBC News on Tuesday.

Sammy told his brother their parents were holding hands as the auto plunged into the water.
