Bolton: Here's how Trump can drop Iran deal

  • Women in Tehran celebrate after the announcement of an agreement on Iran nuclear negotiations

On Thursday, Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, urged the IAEA to use all the authorities to monitor Iran's nuclear program, including Iran's military sites.

Last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani threatened to quit the nuclear pact if the White House issues new sanctions.

Earlier, Trump sent a senior member of his administration to Vienna to lobby with the IAEA to request access to Iranian military sites as part of the deal.

If Trump declares Tehran in breach of the nuclear agreement, Washington must be prepared to go it alone, because Iran, and its oil industry, will fight a USA snapback of sanctions and can rely on its European and Asian oil customers to back it up.

"There is no need to wait for the next certification deadline in October".

Q: In view of the US influence on the IAEA, how do you evaluate the visit of Nikki Haley to the IAEA headquarters in Vienna?

"People close to the president during the campaign, Bannon and others, longtime conservatives and Iran deal skeptics are pretty much frozen out of the decision making process", said one source with ties to the administration.

Kyrie Irving Trade: Cavs inquire about Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum
But the concerns over Thomas have added an uneasiness to a trade we'll still be breaking down a decade from now. This is all new ground for general manager Koby Altman, who has only been on the job full-time since mid-July.

Just after the two-year anniversary of the deal, we'll ask Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council, about its future. Bolton has long said the deal, which limited Tehran's ability to produce nuclear material in exchange for sanctions relief, will not prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons as intended, but will facilitate it.

- Saudi Arabia is supporting terrorists in Yemen. This visit was met with harsh criticism by Iranian officials, several of whom asserted that the actual American intention was not a neutral assessment of the IAEA's investigations, but rather the spreading of doubt about the compliance judgments that the IAEA has already made.

A policy review he ordered is also supposed to examine Tehran's behavior in the Middle East, which Washington has said undermines US interests in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon.

"Today, the Americans may have certain assumptions, but the sanctions will never return in the way they were previously imposed against us".

Q: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres believes the Iran nuclear deal is "one of the most important diplomatic achievements in our search for, for peace and stability and everyone involved needs to do its utmost to protect and support that agreement". "If they are considering a breakout for the purposes of [nuclear] capability, they will probably try to maximize their benefits and minimize the blowback".

In Yemen, Iran backs the Houthi militias who are supported by forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh, while Saudi Arabia backs the internationally recognised government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi which has been forced out of the capital Sana'a and setup base in the southern city of Aden.

A spokesperson for Bolton declined to comment and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Foreign Policy.
