U.S. President Donald Trump defended Monday his controversial pardon of Joe Arpaio, a former sheriff of the U.S. state of Arizona, who was convicted of criminal contempt in a racial profiling case earlier this year. I'm wondering if you could tell us what was behind your thinking for issuing a pardon for the sheriff, and as well, what do you say to your critics, even some in your own party, who say it was the wrong thing to do?

Henry said it was not a big deal and that people in Washington are going to be "shocked" by it but President Trump's base is going to "love it". "Sheriff Joe protected our borders, and Sheriff Joe was very unfairly treated by the Obama administration, especially right before an election - an election that he would have won", Trump said.

"Sheriff Joe loves our country", he said.

"If the media is so upset about Sheriff Arpaio, then they should be really outraged about what presidents Clinton and Obama did", Hannity said. They just hammered him just before the election; I thought that was a very, very unfair thing to do.

Other pardons that created a stir in recent times included President George W. Bush's clemency for Scooter Libby, who had been convicted in a White House scandal, and President Bill Clinton's for Marc Rich, who had been indicted on counts including tax evasion and trading with Iran during the hostage crisis. "You have President Obama who commuted the sentence of Bradley Manning, huge traitor". Trump had repeatedly praised Arpaio during the campaign. Meanwhile, Trump said Arpaio was a "patriot".

The president said his pardon was no more controversial than other presidents.

Trump has received criticism for the timing of the pardon, which came just as Hurricane Harvey was about to make landfall on Friday night.

Arpaio shot to national fame by aggressively targeting immigrants living in the USA illegally using tactics that Latino and immigrants' rights advocates likened to racial profiling.

On the wall, Trump declined to back down from recent threats that he would allow the government to shut down if Congress refuses to provide more money for the wall.

Mexico, meanwhile, has shown no interest in funding the wall.

Asked if he considers Russian Federation a national security threat, Trump replied, "Well, I consider many countries as a security threat, unfortunately, when you look at what's going on in the world today". The journalist interjected: "We have a lot of blonde women in Finland".
