Salvador Segovia, 65, said Otis, his grandson Carter's dog, got loose and fled from the city - with a big bag of dog food clutched carefully in his mouth. The next morning Segovia noticed Otis' bag of dog food was also missing.

In Texas, an incredibly pragmatic dog became a local hero as he thoroughly "prepared" for the Hurricane Harvey.

Salvador Segovia drove around the neighborhood searching for Otis, but still had no luck finding the German shepherd.

The post has gone viral, having been shared 27,000 times at this posting.

Meanwhile, neighbor Tiele Dockens saw Otis carrying his bag of food and took a picture, which has since gone viral. Another one said: "Not a dog lover, but this photo of Otis escaping Harvey with a bag of dog food is precious". "Lots of people were out in their yards and streets cleaning up branches, trees and debris".
