  • Blast and shooting as gunmen attack mosque in Kabul

Up to now, no terrorist or insurgent group has claim the action's authorship but suspicions reverted to the Islamic State, responsible for similar attacks in several Afghan areas.

Police spokesperson Mohammed Jamil told AP that the gunmen are still inside the mosque in a northern neighbourhood of Kabul.

Eyewitnesses said the security forces arrived at the scene two hours following the attack.

The Ministry of the Interior said two police officers were killed at the gate of the compound and two others wounded.

"At least three people entered the mosque and started shooting", he said. As per an Associated Press report, a member of Afghanistan's Shiite clerical council confirmed the deaths in the attack that is still underway. Nasiri said the gunmen have taken over the portion of the mosque with the separate prayer areas for men and women.

The mosque could accommodate up to 1,000 people, Nasir added. A sprawling cavernous prayer hall dominated the main floor. Access to the second floor, where the women pray, was blocked by attackers. IS has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks killing dozens of Shias in Kabul over the past year, including twin explosions in July 2016 that ripped through crowds of Hazaras, killing at least 85 people and wounding more than 400.

The S-Pen also has some fresh tricks up its sleeve; users can now take up to 100 pages of notes in the Screen Off Memo mode. The Note 8 includes other notable innovations, including dual 12 MP cameras (where the S8/S8+ have a single 12 MP camera).

In the claim, IS says two of its fighters, seeking martyrdom, carried out the assault. While he did not give specifics, senior US officials have said that he might send up to 3,900 more troops, with some deployments beginning nearly immediately.

The attack was the latest by IS to hit the Afghan capital.

Shiites, a minority of about three million in overwhelmingly Sunni Afghanistan, have been targeted regularly by ISIL.

"We have ten civilians martyred and over 40 wounded". There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.

"A terrorist attack occurred in the district of Qala-e-Najara, Kabul", said the deputy spokesman of the ministry of the Interior, Najib Danish.
