  • Jared Leto's Joker Expected to Return For Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens

It will not be tied to their current DC Extended Universe, where Jared Leto has been cast as the character.

DC Films are reportedly developing a new film about The Joker's origin story, with Martin Scorsese now in talks to executively produce the project.

The origin story of the classic Batman villain, The Joker, is to be told in a new movie. (So, for example, even if this film is released, Jared Leto's Joker would still appear in any planned DCEU films, such as Suicide Squad 2, should the character return for that sequel.) It is unclear whether the films under this now unnamed banner could intersect with the DCEU, but the intention is to introduce unique, unexpected takes on beloved characters.

According to the report, the untitled Joker spinoff will be a "gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in the early '80s Gotham City". It's obviously too early to judge the Joker film, but based on the DCEU's recent history, fans are right to be nervous.

As the movie seems to be set in a different universe, Jared Leto who now plays the role of Joker in the DCEU will not be reprising his role for this spinoff. While the show has yet to outright label him as "Joker", Jerome Valeska does have the maniacal laugh mastered.

There were seals in the area at the time, according to Leslie Reynolds, chief ranger with the Cape Cod National Park Service. Swim! Get out of the water! "I think he sustained some minor injuries, we're still waiting for more details on that".

Well, it's been exactly four minutes since the last announcement of a comic book movie, luckily DC have us covered! Whichever actor they pick has big shoes to fill, following iconic performances from Jack Nicholson in 1989's Batman and Heath Ledger in 2008's The Dark Knight.

Warner Bros.is looking to Martin Scorsese and The Hangover's Todd Phillips to produce the film. The film is expected to feel less like a DC movie and more like other projects Scorsese has created, like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.

It's unclear how the new banner will fit the film into the DC schedule.

Deadline reports that Jared Leto won't be starring as the Joker in this movie even though he most recently played the Joker in Suicide Squad.

Scott Silver will join Phillips as a co-writer on the film, which will delve into what it took for the Joker to become to be a mastermind criminal.
