  • Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi pose together as Jamaluddin apologised to Indonesia for the mistake which makes the red-and-white Indonesian flag resemble Poland’s on

Today, unidentified hackers from Indonesia hacked and defaced dozens of Malaysian websites in their protest of the upside-down flag controversy.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has apologised to his Indonesian counterpart over a mistake on the Indonesian flag in a booklet on the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo also called for an apology but cautioned against exaggerating the incident.

The people in Indonesia took offence because the guidebook was distributed to VIPs on Saturday's opening ceremony of the 29th Southeast Asian Games that took place in Kuala Lumpur.

The booklet included a page paying homage to previous hosts, including Indonesia, with the famous merah putih printed upside - the flag of Poland.

Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi acknowledged Khairy's apology and said he hoped the incident will not be repeated.

One-time Ballon d'Or victor claims Coutinho isn't the solution to Barcelona's mess
Coutinho handed in a transfer request to Liverpool earlier this month as he strives to secure his dream move to Barcelona . But Dortmund have denied those claims with respect to their 20-year-old star.

In the statement, Aman emphasized that "all measures have been taken to address this unfortunate situation" and reassured that "Malaysia places importance to its close and deeply rooted fraternal relations with Indonesia".

Khairy, who is also MASOC chairman, said he had stopped the distribution of the erroneous special souvenir book and a new edition with the appropriate correction would be issued.

"Friendship is the greatest legacy in sports, but a mistake in presenting a national identity is not justified", he said.

"We are dedicating our victory to all Malaysians including parents, coaches, supporters and teammates", said Nur Afisa, 19, who was a member of the bronze medal women's recurve team in Singapore. This led to anger in Indonesia and "shameonyoumalaysia" started trending on Twitter.

"We apologize for affecting the image and reputation of the Republic of Indonesia, as the flag is a symbol of pride", he said after meeting Indonesia's delegation to the games.
