  • Poll: Trump's favorability rating falls in three key states he won in 2016

President Trump is not only losing ground in three key states that helped send him to the White House, but a majority of voters there say he has embarrassed them, new polls say.

However, six in 10 voters in all three states said they believed the USA role in the world has been diminished under the leadership of President Trump.

In Michigan, 36-percent of those polled approve of President Trump's job performance. while 55-percent disapprove. In Michigan, 48% of voters said they would prefer a Congress controlled by Democrats, compared to 35% who said they want to see the reins remain in Republican hands.

But in the latest NBC News/Marist poll, voters in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania do not seem to be giving Trump much credit.

And in Wisconsin, 34-percent approve with 56-percent disapprove.

According to the poll that was released Thursday, Trump's approval rating increased to 39 percent from a record low of 33 percent in part due to optimism on the economy.

Asked which party they would prefer to control Congress after the 2018 elections, voters in all three states gave Democrats the edge.

The telephone polls were conducted between August 13 and 17, surveying 795 voters in MI, 773 voters in Pennsylvania, and 801 voters in Wisconsin, and had a 3.5% margin of error.

Forty-eight percent of MI voters preferred Democrats.

Six in 10 respondents also said the United States' standing in the world has suffered under Trump.

The poll of registered voters in each state has a margin for errors of 3.5 percent.

In Pennsylvania, Democrats hold a 10-point advantage on congressional preference, 47 percent to 37 percent.

The poll was conducted starting Sunday, the day after a counter-protester was killed by a Nazi sympathizer in Charlottesville, Virginia, through Thursday, two days after Trump gave a widely-criticized press conference in the lobby of Trump Tower.

The president has been under fire due to his failure to immediately condemn the recent tragedy in Charlotesville, in which a driver plowed into demonstrators protesting against white supremacists and killed a young woman and injuring almost 20 others.
