Kyrgios will face Grigor Dimitrov - who beat John Isner 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (12-10) - in the final, in the lead-up to the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Nadal, who won his 10th French Open title in June, was assured of moving into the top ranking tomorrow for the first time since July 2014 when Roger Federer withdrew from Cincinnati with a back injury.

The crowd briefly turned on Kyrgios when he played a nonchalant shot between his legs, allowing Nadal to finish off an easy victor, prompting boos from spectators who thought it disrespectful.

It wasn't until Dimitrov's fourth match point that he was able to convert, as Isner dumped a forehand into the net. "I just felt like doing it. My friends who were watching were laughing so they liked it I guess".

In a highly-anticipated quarter-final matchup, Australian Kyrgios breezed past the 15-times grand slam champion Nadal in about one hour and 20 minutes.

"I know that he's feeling confident".

The young contender blew a chance to close the match while serving at 5-4 in the second set when Nadal broke him.

He said after the hard-fought game; "He was a nightmare to play, especially because I'm a tall guy and he's not the tallest guy". "I had the match on my racket and tightened up", Kyrgios said.

Dollar on defensive after Fed minutes dampen rate hike prospects
The Fed has raised its benchmark overnight lending rate twice this year and forecasts one more rise before the end of 2017. For the 12 months ended June 30, the most recent data available, the Fed's preferred inflation measure was 1.4%.

Forced to dig deep, Kyrgios worked his way to parity on serve, prompting deep, guttural shouts as the Australian psyched himself up.

"No excuses, nothing at all", Nadal said.

"I have just been going through a load of sh*t, sorry for cussing, but a load of stuff that's distracted me from just trying to play some tennis, and hopefully I'm just trying to get on the right track again".

Czech defending champion Pliskova led Italian qualifier Camila Giorgi 3-0 when play was suspended while former and future world No 1 Nadal and compatriot Albert Ramos-Vinolas never started their third-round match before the final drenching began.

The women's semifinals saw 4-seed Garbine Muguruza defeat top-ranked Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-2 and 2-seed Simona Halep defeat American Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-1.

The match was pushed from Thursday night into Friday morning due to heavy rain.

"I think it's a good step", said the 26-year-old Dimitrov. "I'm ready to get dinner and get in bed because I'm so exhausted".
