The president said he meant to speak Friday evening with China's President Xi Jinping, whom he has pushed to pressure North Korea to halt a nuclear weapons program that is nearing the capability of targeting the United States.

The president appeared to draw another red line that would trigger a USA attack against North Korea and "big, big trouble" for its leader, Kim Jong Un.

A picture is worth a thousand hot takes.

Kim was briefed on the missile plan Monday and said he would watch Washington's actions "a little more", the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

If they "persist in their extremely risky reckless actions on the Korean Peninsula", then North Korea would take action "as already declared", he was quoted as saying.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Monday the U.S. military would know the trajectory of a missile fired from North Korea within moments and would "take it out" if it looked like it would hit the U.S. Pacific territory.

In response, Calvo said: "Mr. President, as the governor of Guam, representing the people of Guam, and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe and so confidence with you at the helm".

New United Nations sanctions condemning the North's rapidly developing nuclear program drew fresh ire and threats from Pyongyang.

Republicans have also criticized Trump for his choice of words in responding toward North Korea.

Guam, the Pacific island that is a USA territory and home to a U.S. bases and around 6000 United States military personnel, posted emergency guidelines on Friday to help residents prepare for any potential nuclear attack.

On Friday, the USA president again added fuel to the fire, saying that if Pyongyang "acts unwisely", Washington has military solutions "locked and loaded".

North Koreans have lived for decades with the state media message that war is imminent, the U.S.is to blame and their country is ready to defend itself.

North Korea has warned it was considering a plan to launch four ballistic missiles to land in the sea just outside Guam.

It should be noted however that August 15 is celebrated annually in both North and South Korea as National Liberation Day, so the aforementioned missile launcher movements may be a part of some display of military might held by Pyongyang during the occasion.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula escalated in July, when Pyongyang twice successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of targeting the United States mainland.

"Guam is the largest island between Hawaii and the Philippines and it has a natural deep seawater port", says Robert Underwood, former Guam delegate to the U.S. Congress and current president at the University of Guam.

One large map appeared to show a straight line between northeastern North Korea and Guam, a U.S. territory in the western Pacific that is home to American military bases.

"We don't feel they've reached that point yet but it's true they are approaching it".

"What matters is that if a second conflict (on the peninsula) erupts, that can not help but lead to a nuclear war", the North's official Korean Central News Agency said in a commentary.

"I wish there would be less partisanship up there", Calvo said. Instead, they wrote they seek the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through diplomatic channels. The North in turn threatened to test-fire its missiles towards the US Pacific island of Guam.

China Issues Rare Order to Carry Out Sanctions Against North Korea
Although China warned the United States on Monday against mixing trade with geopolitics, Beijing has yet to follow its own advice. Such thefts not only damage American companies, but also pose a threat to the U.S. national security, the second official said.
