Tropical Depression number eight formed overnight and is expected to become a Tropical Storm at some point on Sunday.

The National Hurricane Center said on Sunday afternoon that Gert was centered about 505 miles (812 kilometers) west-southwest of Bermuda and had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (64 kph).

The storm is located east of the Bahamas.

At this time, it is not expected to threaten the United States.

A tropical depression in the western Atlantic is expected to become a tropical storm later today.

BMW violently plunges off Texas parking garage
Surveillance video captured the moment a auto plunged seven stories off the side of a parking garage in Texas. Last September, a sport utility vehicle plunged from the ninth floor of the same parking garage.

A turn toward the north is forecast for tonight, followed by a turn toward the north-northeast by Monday night.

Over the next few days, Gert will move north-northwest and eventually re-curve out to the open Atlantic.

At the moment, it appears this alleyway will set up far enough east that the USA would avoid any direct impacts, but increased surf along the East Coast is possible. It is now moving to the west-northwest at around 10 to 15 miles per hour and is expected to meet up with a larger area of low pressure southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands in the next few days.
