He was given the maximum possible sentence under the law of 35 years in prison.

A violent attack on a SC police officer past year was caught on a small camera attached to the officer's glasses, and that footage helped put away a suspect in an attempted murder case.

"Tell my family that I love them", Smith says to a dispatcher after frantically running back to his police vehicle, covered in blood.

Officer Quincy Smith was called to investigate a suspicious man trying to snatch groceries from a convenience store in the small town of about 2,000 people. He had previously purchased the glasses with his own money. The video shows Smith repeatedly yelling at Orr "Take your hands out of your pocket!"

Orr, who had his other hand in his right pocket, turns and looks at the officer but continues walking and talking on the phone.

But without breaking stride, the gunman, Malcolm Orr, pulls a gun and shoots him. Smith asks him to "come here" again, to no avail.

Those glasses were on and recording past year, when Smith was shot multiple times while responding to a robbery call at a convenience store. At least two of the rounds were fired as he lay on the ground, officials said.

Officer Smith has since recovered from his injuries.

North Korea says it's released imprisoned Canadian pastor
The 62-year-old was in poor health and wrote letters to his friends stating he had stomach pain and high blood pressure. A Canadian security official arrived in North Korea Tuesday to secure the pastor's release.

Passer-by J Tompkins is filmed stopping to help Smith, who is heard saying: "I can barely breathe, tell them to hurry up".

Bullets broke two bones in the officer's arm, severed a vein in his neck and passed through his upper torso.

Smith's video helped convict Orr on attempted murder charges. "I'm not playing with you!"

Officer Smith bought the camera for $30 on Amazon.

Mr Smith's terrified reflection can be seen in his auto window as he continues to describe his wounds: "My arms are broken".

A passer-by comes to his aid and attempts to assure him: "I've seen you after that boy".

"I'm hit in my neck some place", he told the dispatcher.

"If but not for the grace of God and some very good doctors, this would not only have been a murder case, but a death penalty case", said prosecutor Duffie Stone.
