Amy Schumer to make Broadway debut in Steve Martin comedy

Schumer will lead a cast of fellow amusing people, including Keegan-Michael Key (of "Key & Peele" fame, who is performing in an Off-Broadway run of "Hamlet" alongside Oscar Isaac), Alan Tudyk ("Firefly") and Tony Award victor Laura Benanti ("Gypsy").

Meteor Shower will mark both Schumer and Key's Broadway debut; Key has also been performing off-Broadway this summer in the Public Theater's production of Hamlet.

Amy has been cast as Corky, with Alan Tudyk playing her husband Norm, while Laura Benanti and funnyman Keegan-Michael Key will portray the visiting couple, Laura and Gerald.

"Celebrating the news, Amy took to Twitter on Monday (07Aug17) and announced: "@stevemartintogo wrote a hilarious play @MeteorShowerBwy & I get to do it w/ (with) @KeeganMKey @LauraBenanti @AlanTudyk". At the helm of the Broadway edition is director Jerry Zaks whose previous work includes "The House of Blue Leaves", "Lend Me a Tenor", "Six Degrees of Separation" and "Guys and Dolls" which all earned him Tony Awards.

"A meteor shower actually came to me first", Martin told the San Diego Tribune on writing the play. 'I liked the idea of it - I liked the idea of a couple going to watch a meteor shower. And when I started to think about who everybody is (in the play), that's when it got worthy. The Broadway run opens November 29, with previews beginning November 1, at the Booth Theatre. It's only his second Broadway production after last year's "Bright Star" which he wrote alongside Edie Brickell. She also will star in and produce the comedy feature "I Feel Pretty", and plays a supporting role in DreamWorks' upcoming PTSD drama "Thank You for Your Service", the directorial debut of "American Sniper" screenwriter Jason Hall.
