Samsung has finally taken the wraps off its long-rumoured Galaxy S8 Active, announcing pre-orders will go live in the United States as of Tuesday. Dubbed the "toughest Galaxy smartphone yet", the rugged phone features a frame that's shatter-, dust-, and water-resistant. This device series has been the front-runner in the fight against the Apple iPhone, and with the newest iteration of the iPhone debuting this fall, Samsung has to make its stand in what could be a challenging market.
As such, its design differs somewhat from the sleek and smooth form factor of the standard S8, doing away with the curved-edge Infinity Display, in favour of a more durable screen with a decent bezel. YOu can can check the pricing of the Galaxy S8 Active below. Samsung Galaxy S8 Active comes with 4,000mAh battery instead of 3000mAh battery found in normal version. Compared to the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 Active sports a slightly bigger 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display offering Quad HD+ (2960 × 1440 pixels) resolution.
The S8 Active is powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset, and there's 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage, 12MP f/1.7 rear camera, and an 8MP front shooter.
As usual, the company has managed to insert a larger battery into the new Active device - 4000mAh.
Just like the outgoing Galaxy S7 Active, the Galaxy S8 Active will also be an AT&T exclusive in the US.
Leaked photos have also revealed that the Note 8 could be the first Samsung device to incorporate a dual-lens camera. At a hefty retail price of $850 (or $28.34 a month with 30 AT&T Next payments), it's indeed not easy to justify the existence of this literal beast. The Galaxy S8 Active will become widely available through other carriers (and maybe even in an unlocked variety) at a later date.
