India's Yuki Bhambri's spirited run at the Citi Open in Washington came to an end after he lost to South Africa's Kevin Anderson 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 on Saturday.

Thiem had a match point at 5-6 in the third-set tiebreaker but couldn't convert.

En route to the quarterfinals, Bhambri scalped world number 22 and defending champion Gael Monfils from France and world number 100 Guido Pella from Argentina. Bhambri has already secured enough points to break into the top-150 of Men's singles rankings.

The quarterfinal matchups are Anderson vs. Bhambri, Raonic vs. The big-serving South African believes he has some work to do when he steps out on the court to meet the rising Indian player.

"I've practised with him before, but that was a few years ago". It was long, tough, grueling, and the rhythm of the match was shaken up by the rain at this year's CIti Open.

Despite being favored over his next opponent, Anderson pulled off an upset of his own Thursday by beating No. 1 seed Dominic Thiem.

But Thiem sent a backhand wide on the penultimate point and Anderson blasted an ace wide to reach his fourth Washington quarter-final, matching his best result.

However, he made a good comeback in the second set, breaking the World no. 45's serve in the first game itself.

Anderson would use that height and serve of his to break back, making it 5-5.

Anderson didn't want to waste a challenge over the call though and Thiem would concede the point.
