  • Donald Trump has not warmed to the State Department

Plus is National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster thwarting President Trump's foreign policy?

"General McMaster and I are working very well together", Trump explained.

The president says, "I am grateful for the work he continues to do serving our country".

That campaign - which may include some top White House officials but has primarily been conducted by nationalist, right-wing organizations and news sites - has sought revenge on McMaster for his ousting of four conservatives from Trump's national security council, as well as for his opposition to simply voiding President Obama's Iran nuclear deal without a back-up plan.

Director of the Middle East. Another conservative outlet, The Daily Caller, declared that "Everything the President Wants to Do, McMaster Opposes". Both men, for instance, agreed that the Trump administration should certify that Tehran is complying with the Iran nuclear deal - a pivotal decision that Trump resisted last month despite concerns that not issuing the certification would infuriate USA allies and forfeit all current restrictions on Iran's nuclear program. McMaster tried to fire Cohen-Watnick earlier this year but was stymied by Bannon and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who came to his defense.

General McMaster is a true public servant and a tremendous asset for the president and the administration.

It was revealed on Wednesday in news reports that Rich Higgins, who served as director for strategic planning at the NSC, was sacked July 21.

His dismissal follows other recent changes at the NSC.

U.S. President Donald Trump's doubts about the war in Afghanistan has led to a delay in completing a new U.S. strategy in South Asia, skepticism that included a suggestion that the U.S. military commander in the region be fired, U.S. officials said on Wednesday. Numerous attacks came from online outlets popular with the far right, including Breitbart, which until last August was run by White House adviser Stephen Bannon.

A senior administration official defended the move to CNN, and said the security clearance had been extended to all former security advisers, so they could discuss with the administration national security issues that occurred under their tenure.

Trump's efforts to cool speculation about McMaster's future seems to be another example of how new chief of staff John Kelly is bringing some order to the chaotic White House.

McMaster continued clearing house this week, firing top national security administration officials, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, Rich Higgins, and Derek Harvey - and exacerbating the already splintered White House. Alt-right journalist Mike Cernovich has shared links to a site called McMaster Leaks on Twitter, devoted to attacks on the general.
